HELENA, Mont. — The Carroll College men's soccer team utilized a pair of second half goals to defeat Evergreen State 2-0 on Saturday afternoon on Valley Bank Field at Nelson Stadium.
Coming off their first CCC win of the year, the Fighting Saints (3-2-2, 2-0-1) found a pair of goals from their senior leaders to top the Geoducks (2-3-3, 0-3-1) and continue their quest toward a second conference title in the last three seasons.
Evergreen State played the final 51 minutes a man down after Jesus Marin was shown a red card in the 39th minute. The Geoducks escaped the first half unharmed, but Carroll made the advantage count over the final 45.
Captain Sam Loughton (East Yorkshire, England / SR) broke the deadlock in the 49th minute (48:35), finishing off an assist from Felix Billard (Mallorco, Spain / SR) and Jake Dicely (Corona, Calif. / JR).
Billard, already with four points on the week, added an insurance goal of his own in the 66th minute to make it 2-0 and help Carroll coast to victory.
Carroll dominated the shot chart, finishing with a 32-8 edge in shots and an 11-4 advantage in shots on goal. Loughton led the way with seven shots, while Billard finished with three.
Goalkeeper Noah Jordan (Deer Park, Wash. / JR) got the start in net, making four saves to secure the shutout.
The Saints will now head out on their longest conference road trip of the season, taking on Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech next weekend.
