Montana’s premier autumn celebration returns this year as the Rotary Club of Townsend presents Townsend Fall Fest, a free, family‑friendly festival held annually the first weekend in October at Heritage Park. The three‑day extravaganza draws more than 10,000 visitors, making it a hallmark event for Broadwater County. The event is October 3-5, 2025, in Townsend.Â
Organizers say the festival combines live music, artisan vendors, food booths, community contests and one of the state’s largest car shows. Admission is completely free thanks to generous sponsorship by local businesses and individuals.
Music and entertainment anchor the weekend. Attendees enjoy a lineup of local, Montana‑based and regional bands, performing throughout the three days. The Rotary Club forecasts a warm, welcoming vibe amid the autumn foliage – a setting ideal for friends and families to gather and enjoy live performances under wide open skies.
The festival’s vendor market offers a broad selection of handcrafted goods, fine art, clothing, jewelry, wood‑crafts and more, alongside a range of locally prepared food and refreshing beverages. The Rotary Club’s own booth draws visitors with “famous local brats” and other crowd‑pleasing eats, served from Friday through Sunday.
Sunday’s highlight is the Fall Fest Car Show, historically one of Montana’s largest. In 2024, the event featured more than 320 classic and custom cars, earning “Best Car Show of the Year” honors from several state clubs. Its broad appeal draws auto enthusiasts of all generations. That same day, the Volunteer Fire Department hosts a pancake breakfast in Heritage Park, and the local Chamber of Commerce runs a town‑wide fall decoration contest, transforming Main Street into a festive showcase of autumn artistry.
Behind the scenes, proceeds from vendor fees, sponsorships, food‑and‑beverage sales and car show entries underwrite the Rotary Club’s year‑round community service initiatives. Projects formerly supported include scholarships for Broadwater High students, grants to Imagination Library, the Broadwater Food Pantry, swimming pool lifeguard training, skatepark development, and numerous youth programs such as the Rotary Youth Leadership Award camp and Interact Club events.
Fall Fest is described by Rotary members as a cornerstone of “Service Above Self”, reflecting the club’s mission to enrich its community through fun, service and volunteerism,
For first‑time visitors, the fest offers an immersive weekend: grab a craft beer and tap your toes to live music, browse artisan displays, enjoy delectable food, admire gleaming classic cars, and bask in small‑town charm. All in all, “it’s Montana welcoming you home for the weekend.”
