GLASGOW – A free youth outdoor skills event is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Glasgow Trap Club for any youth aged 10 and older. Parents or other mentors planning to hunt with the youth are expected to attend as well. Participants do not have to be at the event exactly at 4:30 p.m. Organizers are aware that after-school sports activities are going on, so participants should show up when they can.
This event is planned ahead of the youth pheasant weekend of Sept. 19-20 and youth waterfowl weekend of Sept. 26-27, which are open for properly licensed youth ages 10-15.
The kick-off will be an open house event for youth and their adult hunting partners to work on safety and shooting skills and to learn about the youth bird-hunting weekend, ask questions, and get advice on where to go.
FWP staff and others will offer a variety of topics in an open house setting, such as:

- Waterfowl and upland game bird identification, and recommended shot size to use

In addition, the Glasgow Trap Club will be offering trap shooting for those interested, where youth can rotate through a round of trap. There will also be an archery station run by FWP using FWP equipment.
Safety is the number one priority, and participants will need to sign an acknowledgement of risk agreement before participating.
Several qualified instructors will be helping with the trap shooting and archery. Hearing protection for shooters will be used at all times. Participants are encouraged to bring their own shotgun, and both 12- and 20-gauge shells will be provided. Organizers ask that personal firearms are unloaded and in safe, operating condition before bringing them to the event. All firearms will be inspected by organizers to ensure field-worthiness. FWP 20-gauge pump shotguns will also be available for the event if participants choose to use them. Equipment used at the archery station will be provided by FWP. Please do not bring personal archery equipment.
Shotgun or archery shooting may not take place in the case of inclement weather. However, other activities will still occur. Please check the Region 6 FWP Facebook page for current updates or changes.
All participants will receive a hunter orange bird vest and baseball cap from FWP, and there will be other giveaways and door prizes, including a gun donated by the Hi-Line Sportsmen and other items donated by sponsors. Drawing for major door prizes will be held at the conclusion of the event.
The event is organized and funded by donations and volunteers from FWP, Hi-Line Sportsmen, Ducks Unlimited, and the Glasgow Trap Club.
The Glasgow Trap Club is located off Skylark Road, north of Glasgow. After turning onto Skylark Road from Highway 2, veer right after a tenth of a mile, and then veer left. Follow the gravel road another two-tenths of a mile until arriving at the trap club on the right. Parents or adult mentors are asked to stay with the youth.
