ESSEX, Mont. – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Schellinger Construction, announces that construction has concluded on U.S. Highway 2 (US 2) near Essex. The Stanton – Essex Pavement Preservation project began in June and ended in late September.
“Regular pavement maintenance makes a big long-term difference in how our roads hold up over time,” John Schmidt, MDT Missoula District Administrator, said. “This project went quickly and smoothly, and we’re thankful to the traveling public for their patience during construction.”
Through the Stanton – Essex Pavement Preservation project, 12 miles of US 2, beginning near Stanton Creek and extending southeast to just beyond the Middle Fork Flathead River bridge, were improved. This included milling and replacing asphalt, applying a seal and cover (chip seal), installing rumble strips, completing bridge repairs, updating pavement markings, and upgrading guardrail.
These improvements will help extend the life of the roadway, enhance safety, and provide a more reliable and enjoyable travel experience for everyone who uses this corridor.
