Exhibit opens October 10 with a special event to meet the artist
LOLO — Travelers’ Rest State Park will host a temporary art exhibit this fall, “Kate Davis: Works from 50 Years Outdoors, 1976-2026.” Meet the artist by stopping by the park on the exhibit’s opening day, Saturday, Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m.
Visitors to Travelers’ Rest State Park can view the free exhibit from Oct. 10 through Dec. 31 during regular visitor center hours, Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. To celebrate the opening, stop by and meet the artist and some of her feathered bird friends on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 1-3 p.m. at Travelers’ Rest State Park (6717 Hwy 12, Lolo).
The exhibit includes 52 works including prints, etchings, welded steel sculptures and more. Kate (Phillips) Davis has been immersed in a world of wild animals, beginning as a teenager with the Cincinnati Zoo Junior Zoologists Club. Kate earned a degree in zoology from the University of Montana in 1982. She founded the nonprofit organization Raptors of the Rockies in 1988 and has since provided more than 2,000 education programs for nearly 150,000 participants, often using live raptors in her programs.
These raptors are models for Kate's art, which includes printmaking, drawing, painting, and big welded steel sculptures. Kate has authored and illustrated seven books. The book, “Raptors of the West Captured in Photographs,” won the National Outdoor Book Award and 2011 Montana Book Award Grand Prize.
