Discovery Ski Area will open for the season on Saturday.
The mountain in Philipsburg will initially open its beginner and intermediate runs on the front side and expand operations as snow accumulates. Discovery will operate both Saturday and Sunday, and then will open again on Saturday, Dec. 17, after which it will remain open seven days a week. Skiers can visit skidiscovery.com for snow report updates and early season discount lift ticket prices and packages.
Discovery opens following offseason improvements that included an upgrade of the lift network and an investment of $100,000 in safety controls and communication systems.
“Making sure our chairlifts are reliable and running smoothly has been one of our top priorities,” Ciche Pitcher, president of Discovery Ski Area, said in a release. “We want to make sure that our skiers have a great experience every day they ski with us and trust that we’re taking their safety very seriously.”
Discovery's yurt on the backside of Rumsey Mountain will be open for its second season, and this year the lodge restaurant will be selling sack lunches for skiers to enjoy a mid-day reprieve at the heated yurt without needing to ski down to the lodge for lunch.
