LCTA team tennis posts winners
Spring team tennis finished with a fun and challenging afternoon at the Last Chance Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon, as Team 1 narrowly beat Team 4 for third place, and Team 2 beat Team 3 for the championship.
Members of the championship team included Andy Fowler, Donna Miller, Bryan Ballou, Anne Wolfinger, Sarah Fox and Gary Willems. Second place Team 3 members were Will Poell, Tom Banks, Mike Mergenthaler, Laurie Crutcher, Bree Hughes and Carin McClain. The third-place team was Doug Ruffin, Kirk Miller, Kevin Quinn, Cindy Lewis, Anna Nash and Candida Quinn. Taking fourth were Broc Willems, Cory Bowlby, Paul Sturm, Paula Vernon, Deb Wambach and Lee Bowlby.
Tennis pro Doug Ruffin brought the team tennis concept to the Last Chance Tennis Center last year, with goals of increasing opportunities for competition, getting to know other local players, being able to play with various ability levels — and, of course, just having fun and getting exercise. Each team consists of six players and plays one other team each week, varying doubles partners throughout the 4-6 week session. Teams earn points for each game won, and the session finishes with playoffs among the teams, depending on points earned.
The next team tennis session starts in the fall. For questions about the Last Chance Tennis Center or any of its activities, lessons or clinics, contact tennis pro Doug Ruffin at 360-789-6664 or email@example.com.
