Mount Helena Gymnastics crowned three all-around champions at Frenchtown's Mismo Magical meet recently, with Marlie Hammond winning the Level 3 Child division, Bella Yearry claiming the L-3 Junior, and Samaire Gittings capturing the L-6.
MHG's L-3 girls garnered the team title, behind Hammond's gold medals on bars, beam and floor. Yearry placed third on vault, and was second on bars, beam and floor. Addison Thalheimer won floor in her age division and was all-around runner-up. Delaney Stearn earned the beam title in her division and added third-place all-around, while Kiana Poulin took silver on vault, bars, floor and all-around, and Bailey Olds placed fourth on bars.
The L-4s were paced by Avery Popp, who took bronze all-around, with a championship on bars. Teammate Savannah Taylor placed runner-up on vault and claimed third on bars, floor and all-around. Abbey Olson, Brailey Sublette and Grace Crandell each placed second on vault in their age divisions, with Crandell winning floor.
At L-6, Gittings earned silver on vault and beam, and bronze on floor, while Emma McCauley was the vault champion. L-7's Emma Rohrer-Fitzhugh placed fifth on vault and Mikayla Hall was fourth on floor.
The L-8 team captured runner-up, led by Reese Esponda, with a floor victory, and second placings on vault and all-around. Liliy Bohler finished third on vault, beam and floor, while Shi Jia Sullivan broke into the 9.00 club on bars. Level 10s Mikelle Ballard was injured on her beam dismount, but continued to compete and won vault -- a la Kerri Strug -- and collected bronze medals on floor and all-around.
The MHG boys team traveled to Rexburg, Idaho, for the Yellowstone Challenge, where Jacob Jost led the L-6 with a runner-up AA finish. Jost won vault, placed second on bars, and third on high bar and rings. Brenden Brewer finished third on rings, parallel bars and high bar, while Ryan Fuller added a third on vault.
