Gabi Baucus, Libby Hansen, Lily Bohler, Bella Oliver and Reese Esponda had strong showings to begin the gymnastics season.

A team consisting of gymnasts from clubs in Helena and Bozeman placed third behind national gymnastics powers Auburn Gymnastics, Washington and Gymcats, Nevada last weekend in Portland, Oregon.

The team consisted of Reese Esponda and Lily Bohler from Mount Helena Gymnastics, Gabi Baucus and Libby Hansen from Helena Athletic Club and Bella Oliver from Lone Mountain Gymnastics. The Montana All Stars finished third on bars and fourth on vault, beam and floor.

Bohler, competing at Level 8 also finished fourth on balance beam and fifth all-around as an individual. Esponda finished fifth on beam in Level 8 children's division.

Level 10 gymnast Mikelle Ballard, a sophomore at Capital High, competes for Mount Helena Gymnastics. She cored a 9.00 on the vault to place fifth. Ballard and finished the meet with a strong floor routine that placed eighth and helped her to an 8th place finish in the all-around.

“This was a big challenge for the first competition of the year," Mount Helena coach Denny Allen said. "We saw some of the best gymnasts in the nation and overall we did very well." 

Hansen and Baucus of the Capital City Gymnastics team, posted all-around scores on the Level 8 Montana All-Stars of 32.875 and 32.55 points, respectively. Baucus finished sixth on vault, while Hansen placed fifth on bars.

Audrey Bloomquist of CCG placed fourth in Level 9 all-around, compiling 34.725 points. She placed fourth on bars and tied for fourth on beam.

At Level 7, Capital City's Madi Lamping finished with a 34.45 all-around and took fifth on vault. Teammate Lexi McGrath also posted a 34.45, and finished fourth on vault. Julia Amman turned in a 34.125 all-around, with a PR of 9.00 on floor. Lexi Carson placed fifth on bars while producing a 33.625 all-around, and Haley Moseman achieved a 9.125 on with all-around score of 32.75.  

Mount Helena Gymnastics hosts the Montana State Cup this Saturday and Sunday at the Carroll College P.E. Center. The State Cup brings in more 300 gymnasts from around Montana.
