GREAT FALLS -- Helena High's Isaac Romero and Capital's Noah Kovick both won prestigious wrestling matches over the holiday break.

Romero, a junior for the Bengals, was selected to the non-sanctioned East-West all-class invitational prep dual at the University of Providence in Great Falls.

Ranked No. 1 in Class AA, Romero defeated Class A's No. 1 Cooper Birdwell (Lewistown), 9-5, in the 113-pound bout. Two weeks ago, Birdwell handed the Bengal junior his only loss of the season during the finals of the CMR Holiday Classic.

Kovick, a CHS freshman, traveled with the Bruin (USA) Wrestling Club to Denver's "Who's Bad" National Classic tournament. He garnered his division's individual championship in the 137-pound class.

The Bruin Club posted seven other placers, while finishing 17th out of 503 teams.
