CHS Lady Bruins 400 relay

The Capital High girls 400-meter relay team finished in second place at the State meet Friday, setting a new school record with a time of 48.46.

In addition to Capital and Helena High's State track champions at the AA meet in Great Falls on Friday, several other local tracksters attained the podium with top-6 placings.

The Capital girls 400-meter relay quartet of Leigha Carter, Elena Carter, Melissa Moreni and Audrey Bloomquist placed runner-up, setting a new school record with a time of 48.46 seconds. The foursome broke the CHS standard each of their last two times on the track, on Friday lowering the previous week's divisional time of 48.91 by nearly a half-second.

Caleb Ferguson

Helena High's Caleb Ferguson finished second in the pole vault and third in the long jump at the State AA track meet.

Helena High's Caleb Ferguson posted two top-3 placings in addition to teammate Trey Tintinger's high jump title, finishing runner-up in the pole vault at 15-0, and third in the long jump with a leap of 21-11 1/2. Ferguson's long jump bested his former PR by over a foot.

The Bruin boys had three other high finishers on Friday besides shot put champion Justin Jenks, with Conor Quick taking third in the shot at 51-0 and vaulter Jacob Hofer placing fourth with a 14-0 clearance.

Capital's boys 400 relay unit (Matt McGinley, Joe Hagengruer, Alec Ladas, Xavier Melice) also medaled, with a sixth-place showing.
