Helena High’s top four boys cross country runners finished within 6 seconds of each other to lead the Bengals to a third-place finish behind Missoula Sentinel and Billings Senior at the Butte Invitational at Fairmont Hot Springs Golf Course on Thursday.
Sentinel finished with 88 points, Senior totaled 93 and Helena posted 115 in the 14-team meet.
Jonah Fisher led the way in 16:51 for 14th place, Trystan Brewer was 17th in 16:53 and Zane Roush and Clayton Ryerson both crossed the finish line in 16:57 for 19th and 20th place, respectively. Sam Sullivan rounded out Helena's scoring in 45th.
Helena's girls also finished third, just one point behind Flathead.
Frosh Kylie Hartnett led the Lady Bengals with a runner-up placing in 19:15. Rounding out Helena's scorers were Katelyn McKay in ninth in 19:56, Kylee Wetzel in 15th at 20:08 and Rylie Schoenfeld in 17th place with a time of 20:14.
Capital's girls placed eighth, paced by Emma Roher-Fitzhugh, who took 31st at 20:53. Next came Nina Bracht-Bedell in 20:55 and 32nd for the Lady Bruins, ahead of Ella Krumm's 40th place showing.
Capital's boys were led by Jesse McMurtrey, who finished in ninth place in 16:41, while stablemate Peter Lund clocked a 17:19 and took 38th. The Bruins came in eighth as a team.
