The Capital High girls and Helena High boys both finished runner-up at the 31-team Butte Cross Country Invitational on Saturday.
Capital's girls scored 82 points at the Highland View Golf Course, after champion Billings Senior's 42. The Bruins were was led by a pack of three Top 11 runners, as Alana Tonidandle was timed in 19:27 while posting an eighth-place finish. Nina Bracht-Befell (19:31) and Hannah Rohrer-Fitzhugh (19:32) came in 10th and 11th.
Helena's boys finished 12 points behind the Senior Broncs. The Bengals were led by Top 10 placers Jonah Fisher, who took eighth, and Jacob Rice in ninth. Both traversed the distance with 16:44 clockings. Clayton Ryerson finished 17th at 16:59.
HHS' girls were seventh at 192 points, led by Alyssa Plant (19:52) in 16th, and a 20th place showing by Claudia Downing (20:02).
Bryce Maxson paced the Capital boys -- who finished ninth at 214 -- with a Top 12 finish and a clocking of 16:48. CHS stablemate Jesse McMurtrey came in 28th.
For Townsend, both teams placed 14th. Jack Dolan (16:50) was the Bulldogs' top runner with a 12th-place showing, while the girls were led by Grace McDonnell's 54th place finish.
