GREAT FALLS — This weekend marks the fourth straight year that the University of Providence Rodeo team will host the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association's Big Sky Regional Finals at the Four Seasons Arena.
The rodeo will take place Friday and Saturday and close out the 2019-20 NIRA regular season. Cowboys and cowgirls will look to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming, on June 9-15.
The Big Sky Region Finals will kick off with the slack portion beginning at 9 a.m. Friday followed by 7 p.m. performances Friday and Saturday.
Northwest College leads the men's overall standings followed by Montana State. The Bobcats are tops in the women's standings ahead of Montana Western.
For cowboys and cowgirls to qualify for the 2019 CNFR, they must place in the top three in the region for their event. A maximum of 180 total points can be earned -- a combination of 60 points from each the long round, short round and the individual's rodeo average.
Friday's slack will have free admission. The 7 p.m. performance rounds on Friday and Saturday will require a ticket each night. Adult tickets are $15, kids ages 10-17 and University of Providence students with a valid student ID are $10, and kids 9-and-under will be $3. Tickets are available at the Four Seasons Arena box office.
The Big Sky Rodeo Finals performances will be aired on the Cowboy Channel.
