MISSOULA — The Montana football team might have found an answer for its lackluster run game and depleted running back group with the addition of a junior college transfer.

Marcus Knight, who spent the 2018 season at Citrus College in suburban Los Angeles, signed with the Grizzlies on Thursday. Knight became the 23rd signee and the second from a junior college in Montana's 2019 class.

"The culture at Montana is undeniably awesome," Knight said in a news release. "I feel like I will be able to contribute right away and think it will be a really fun place to play."

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound running back rushed for 912 yards and eight touchdowns last season as a freshman. He averaged 82.9 yards per game and 7.0 yards per carry. He fumbled the ball four times in 130 carries.

Knight caught the ball six times for 79 yards.

"Marcus is the complete package," Montana head coach Bobby Hauck said in a news release. "He's a guy that was a little bit of a late bloomer out of high school, and he's really evolved over the past year. He's a quality individual, an outstanding student, and we think he fits with our team."

Knight received an offer from Montana on Saturday, he shared on Twitter. He also had offers from Florida Tech and Eastern New Mexico, according to his Twitter page.

Knight is enrolled at Montana for the spring 2019 semester and will participate in winter conditioning with the team. He has a 4.0 grade-point average.

The Griz have just one returning running back in Adam Eastwood, who rushed for 514 yards in 2018. They lost senior Alijah Lee to graduation, senior Jeremy Calhoun to transfer and sophomore Rey Green to transfer. Quarterback Dalton Sneed led all players with 675 rushing yards. Fullback Levi Janacaro and quarterback Garrett Graves, who lined up at running back, combined for 47 yards on 15 carries.
