MISSOULA — The Missoula Osprey started their final three-game series of the season with a thrilling win Tuesday, using a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to edge the Helena Brewers, 3-2, at Ogren-Allegiance Park.
With the score knotted at 2-2, Cesar Garcia led off the ninth for the O's with a single. He moved up on a wild pitch and passed ball and scored on a two-out single to center field by Alek Thomas.
Eliminated from playoff contention, the O's are hoping to give their fans something to cheer about before their 2018 campaign ends on Thursday night.
They succeeded, twice coming from behind to tie the visitors. Trailing by a run in the fourth inning, they knotted the score at 1-1 when Eddie Hernandez laced a double to left field and scored on a Brandon Leyton single.
Helena went back up with a run in the fifth but Missoula responded in the seventh. Jorge Barrosa hit a one-out triple and scored on a David Sanchez single.
Missoula moved to 37-36 on the season with the win. Helena fell to 36-38. The teams will battle against Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. in Missoula.
