ENNIS — Many of western Montana’s mountain ranges reach higher, a majority are brawnier and most are perhaps even more spectacular, but the remote Gravelly Range nevertheless stands alone for a feature none other can boast: A gravel road, zigging and zagging along its modest backbone, at every turn providing vistas of snowy peaks and braided river valleys, a colorful canvas of wildflowers and even the possibility of spotting a grizzly bear or wolf.
