One of the things I cherish most about our state constitution is that it safeguards public education in no uncertain terms. Not all other states have a constitution that is as clear as Montana’s on the issue of public education. Unfortunately, during the 2019 Legislative Session, some politicians wanted to ignore Montana’s historical commitment to public education and use public tax dollars to fund private for-profit schools with little to no accountability.
As a public school teacher, I want to thank Rep. Moffie Funk for her unwavering support and defense of public education. We must never become like so many other states around the country, which have gradually seen their public education systems eroded for private profit.
I’m grateful that we have legislators like Funk who will do what is right and stand tall for Montana’s quality public schools. I would also like to thank Rep. Funk for fighting for paid family leave this session.
