Here is a word of major disappointment in how the city of Helena takes care of its own. I have a renter neighbor next door who has been running his meat smoker at least five nights a week or more since May. I told him and his landlord right away that I have severe asthma and it is really hard on me. The renter slammed his door in my face and the landlord did nothing. So here it is mid-September, my asthma is worse and I have contacted the Department of Health, DEQ, Fire Dept and City of Helena who on their website under Community Decay states "other matter accumulating and resulting in conditions that are offensive to the senses -- are injurious to health -- and obstruct free use and enjoyment of adjacent property so as to interfere with comfortable enjoyment of the property, etc." I was invited to come discuss my issue with the city, who immediately told me air was not matter accumulating and there was no code against smokers. So there you have it. Helena has no protection and does not take care of its own. So sad. Just like everything now.
