The City of Helena is currently advertising for the new position of Sustainability Coordinator who is responsible for reducing energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and water consumption, and generally promote environmental sustainability, while providing cost savings to the citizens of Helena. Not a bad position, but shouldn't we look into hiring police and fire chiefs prior to getting into a new enterprise such as this? This, in addition to a new transportation department and director, as well as a new public information officer, among others. All well and good, but I don't think there is anything more important to a community such as Helena than adequately staffing our primary public safety agencies. Our current Commission/Manager government is way off in their priorities here.
