DARBY — Trappers have captured and euthanized a second wolf near a Darby-area ranch where a horse was found dead three weeks ago.

The Ravalli Republic reports the male yearling wolf was caught on national forest land Saturday about half a mile from the Two Feathers Ranch south of Darby. The owners of the ranch were given permission to kill up to five wolves when one of their horses died after it was driven through a fence by the predators.

A female gray wolf was killed June 14 after being caught in a trap about 100 yards from where the horse died.

The permit that allows the ranch to kill the wolves expires July 11.
