On Sunday morning at 8:17 a.m., Lewis and Clark County Dispatch received a phone call from a group of nine on a Forest Service trail; and one of the members had fallen and broken her ankle. They were unable to carry her out and were about 4 miles north of the Indian Meadows Trailhead, northeast of Lincoln. One of the members of the hiking party was a member of Swan Valley Search and Rescue and had a hand-held radio with a fire frequency.
Lewis and Clark Search and Rescue was notified. The search and rescue liaison began to work on a plan for backup for a Mercy Flight from Great Falls which was notified and responded. If the helicopter was unable to land close enough, members were on their way to assist helping the medical crew, according to the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Department.
Around 11:50 a.m., the sheriff’s department was notified that Mercy Flight was able to land close enough and pick up the woman. She was transported to the hospital in Great Falls.
