Emergency ambulance crash

The male driver of an ATV was killed Saturday afternoon near Townsend after colliding with a deer.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Cherie Lofton said the male was driving the ATV along with a female passenger westbound on U.S. Highway 12 about a mile east of Townsend when a deer entered the roadway and they collided. The crash was reported at 2:50 p.m.

The driver was transported to the Broadwater Health Center where he later died from his injuries.

Lofton did not have the age or residence of the driver and said the county would release the name, which will likely happen on Sunday.

The passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Neither rider was wearing a helmet. Other potential factors in the crash remained under investigation late Saturday evening, Lofton said.
