Discovery Ski Area will open this weekend.
According to Ciche Pitcher, Discovery hasn’t opened this early in the eight years he’s been the ski area's president.
But on Thursday morning, after getting 14 inches of snow Monday night and winter storms all week, Pitcher and his colleagues decided to open.
“We looked around and saw it would be really good skiing,” Pitcher said. “Well, if it’s good skiing, why not open?”

On Nov. 10 and 11, Discovery will offer $36 tickets for adults and $26 tickets for kids, Pitcher confirmed. There won’t be any senior or half-day tickets. All of the front side lifts and most front trails will be open during normal hours, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Pitcher said after this weekend, the ski area will be open on weekends until December, when the weather should allow for a seven-day schedule. Discovery will also be open four days over Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 22-25.
“We’ll have to adapt to the weather,” Pitcher said. “It’s pretty exciting to see so much snow this time of year though. This weekend will be a couple of beautiful winter days.”
