A 20-year-old Whitehall man died after accidentally shooting himself Saturday evening at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds, according to the Helena Police Department.

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff/Coroner Leo Dutton identified the man as Hunter Adams. Dutton confirmed that the cause of death was an accidental gunshot wound.

On July 6, officers responded to a call about an unresponsive male in a vehicle at the fairgrounds in Helena. The man was found to be deceased at the scene, according to the Helena Police Department.

Authorities declined to provide additional information because the Helena Police Department is continuing to investigate the shooting.
