The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office is investigating after a man was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound late Friday.

Capt. Kevin Wright says that the adult male was brought to St. Peter’s Health at about 10:30 p.m. Friday with a gunshot wound to the leg. The man, who lives in the Helena area, was transported in a private vehicle by two other individuals, dropped off at the hospital, and the individuals left, he said.

The man had to be intubated and was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula where he underwent surgery Saturday. Wright did not have an update on the man’s condition but said he did survive.

Because of the man’s condition authorities have been unable to interview him and do not know whether the gunshot wound was the result of foul play, Wright said. The sheriff’s office did locate the vehicle used to transport the man but were actively searching for the two individuals that transported him as of 3:45 p.m. Saturday, he added.
