A 19-year-old Helena man is accused of kidnapping and strangling his partner.

Paris James Hazlitt is being charged with aggravated kidnapping and strangulation of a partner or family member.

On Tuesday, an officer was dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance. The victim told the officer that she had been prevented from leaving Hazlitt’s home for an hour, had been strangled and was forcefully pushed down in several different locations in order to stop her from leaving.

Hazlitt allegedly used the strap of the victim’s purse to make her unable to breathe for 45 seconds, pushed her down on the couch and strangled her a second time. She then punched him and managed to run away.

Hazlitt admitted to using the purse strap to strangle the woman and attempting to prevent her from leaving several times but denied strangling her a second time, according to court documents.
