The Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office is investigating a "suspicious" death in a home on Lewis Street in East Helena.

Ron Whitmoyer, superintendent of East Helena Public Schools, asked people to stay away from the area, which is near Prickly Pear Elementary and East Valley Middle School, after school was dismissed in the afternoon.

"According to Deputy Chief Harrington, and the Lewis & Clark County Sheriff's Department, there is no danger we simply ask everyone to please stay away so the officers can do their work," Whitmoyer wrote on Facebook.

Undersheriff Jason Grimmis said the body was found around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. Authorities said they do not believe the death was traumatic or violent, and it is not being investigated as a homicide.

"It is not related to the school," Grimmis said. "The situation is considered safe."

The body will be sent to the Montana State Crime Lab for testing.
