I spent nearly all of my career with the Helena public schools, first as a teacher and then as a central office administrator. I always voted for a levy or a bond. No question. But I did not vote for the 2015 Helena school bond because I thought it was poorly planned, poorly communicated and wasn’t sending money where it was most needed in our schools.
That was then. This is now. And I am 100 percent behind this bond. The trustees have done their homework and the bondis focused on critical issues. There will be significant security and technology upgrades for nine elementary schools and two middle schools. There will also be three new buildings to replace Jim Darcy, Bryant and Central. Having spent a lot of time in all three of those buildings, I know they are unsafe, often overcrowded and simply poor places for students to learn and for educators to do their job. So, I urge all Helenans to get behind this bond and vote yes for our students. We lost precious time in the past few years. The time really is now.
