Two Helena businesses were robbed at gunpoint Thursday night, officials reported. The suspect is still believed to be at large.
According to the Helena Police Department, the first robbery occurred at 10:08 p.m. in the 1600 block of Prospect Avenue and the second was at 10:17 p.m. in the 1100 block of E. Lyndale Avenue. In both cases a male entered the business brandishing a pistol and demanding cash, which was provided, before fleeing on foot.
One of the businesses, Loose Caboose Bar & Casino on Lyndale Avenue, said on Facebook that customers were present at the time of the robbery but nobody was injured.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall white male with a thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and concealed his face with a bandanna.
After a business in the 1100 block of Custer Avenue reported seeing a robbery suspect at 12:30 a.m. Friday, police arrested a 50-year-old Helena-area man on charges unrelated to the robberies. The man fled but was arrested after a short chase on suspicion of obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and a probation violation.
The case remains under investigation.
