Four candidates filed for the three available seats on East Helena's school board in time to get their names on the ballot in the May 7 election.
Incumbents Marcia Ellermeyer, board chair Scott Walter, and newcomer Wesley J. Feist all filed for the two three-year terms up for election. Both incumbents previously expressed interest in seeing through the transition to a high school district and making good on promises to the district's voters.
Incumbent Martin Balukas is the only candidate who has filed for a one-year term up for election. He was appointed to the board after a previous trustee resigned, and he must be re-elected to remain in his current position.
Balukas also expressed a desire to continue working for the district to build up East Helena High School. He also said he wanted to maintain the high standard and inclusiveness of the community.
People can still file as write-in candidates until 5 p.m. April 4, according to Lewis and Clark County election officials.
