Helena's school board released a list of six semifinalists for the school district’s superintendent position.
The semifinalists will be interviewed on March 7 and 8, and the school board will select three finalists.
The school board received 19 completed applications after it hired Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to conduct a nationwide search.
Though the school district publicly released the resumes of the candidates during the 2016 interim superintendent search, board chair Sarah Sullivan said she would not release resumes during this search since the board hired a national firm to conduct the process.
The candidates include:
Ember Conley, Ed.D, a former superintendent at Park City School District in Utah. According to the Park Record, Conley submitted a resignation letter in December 2017. Conley told the Park Record there were attacks on her leadership and communication abilities. Conley will interviewed from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on March 8.
Barbara Hickman, Ed.D, served as superintendent in the Flagstaff Unified School District from 2010 until 2016. In March 2016, Hickman accepted a job at the Colorado Department of Education as the department’s new associate commissioner for quality instruction and leadership, according to the Arizona Daily Sun. Hickman will be interviewed from 9 to 11 a.m. on March 8.
Tyler Ream, Ed.D, is an associate superintendent for Academic Performance and Support at Spring Branch ISD in Houston, according to the school district’s website. Ream will be interviewed from 4 to 6 p.m. on March 7.
Jim Shank, Ed.D, is the superintendent at Coupeville School District on Whidbey Island, Wash. The Whidbey News Times reported Shank started in Coupeville, a district of 930 students, in 2012. Shank was a finalist for a superintendent position in Twin Falls, Idaho in 2017. Shank will be interviewed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 8.
Lona Carter, M.A., has served as principal at Jefferson Elementary in Helena since 2003. Carter will be interviewed from 6 to 8 p.m. on March 7.

Carter and Upham were both finalists in the last superintendent search.
All interviews will take place at the Ray Bjork Learning Center.
