Shakespeare in the schools

Alexis Walker, center, Shaina Schrooten, left, and Marlene Slaughter, right, with Montana Shakespeare in the Schools, act out a scene from "Romeo and Juliet" Friday at Helena Middle School. About 850 high school and middle schools attended the Helena performance, which was included in a 10-week tour offered by Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, which is based in Montana State University’s College of Arts and Architecture. After the production, the performers hosted a series of acting workshops for the students. Executive Artistic Director Kevin Asselin said the goal of the troupe is to bring live, professional performances of Shakespeare’s plays to middle and high schools across Montana and Wyoming.
