Our beautiful Mother, Joyce Vashro, passed peacefully in her sleep, during the early morning hours of August 8, 2018. Mom was born August, 9, 1923, in London, England, to Norman and Jenny (Lamb) Perolls.
She was a member of the Women’s Land Army, during WWII, and was very proud of the medal she received from Queen Elizabeth, in 2008, for her service. On September 23, 1944, she became an English War Bride, when she married our father Richard (Dick) Vashro. In 1946, she traveled with her baby daughter, to the United States aboard the Queen Mary. She became a citizen of the United States in 1950. Mom worked for many years for the State of Montana, her last job being for the Secretary of State. She also dedicated her life to working with the Developmentally Disabled, and was a true champion for their cause.
She was preceded in death, by her husband of 62 years, Dick Vashro. Also preceding her, were her parents; five brothers, all of England. She is survived by her six children, Mary (John) Lamb; Barbara (Mike) Grimes; James (Sandi) Vashro; Danny Vashro, Mike (Gwen) Vashro, and Jennifer (Brad) Bennett. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews in the US and England, and many wonderful and dear friends. We would also like to thank the many people at Touchmark, for the wonderful and loving care they gave our mother. She truly loved living there.
A memorial service celebrating Joyce’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. in Helena. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Joyce are suggested to West Mont Farms and Gardens, 2708 Bozeman Ave., Helena, MT 59601.
