David Lynn Shirley (62) was born September 26, 1957 in Malta, MT, the 4th child of Jim and Yvonne Shirley. He died in Spokane, WA on October 13, 2019 after years of battling cancer.

In 1959 the family moved to Helena, MT and in 1960 moved to the Helena valley to a new subdivision and lived on Shirley Road named after his father. It was here David met his lifelong friend Dennis Mix. Dennis and David remained best friends for 57 years. David thought the world of Dennis and his family.

David graduated in Capital High School’s 1st graduation class in 1976. David worked a number of jobs following graduation until joining the military. David served in the Air Force from 1979-1984. His favorite time in the military was when stationed in Japan. He returned to the states and settled in Spokane. He served in the Air National Guard from 1984-2009. During this time he worked on the civilian side and retired as a Tech Sergeant.

David was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother Ronnie (infant), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. David is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Debbie and John Svaldi of Butte, MT, Sandy and Mansur Niaz from Cypress, TX; nephew Nicholas Niaz from Cypress, TX and niece and her husband Melissa and Sam Day from Cypress, TX. David is also survived by aunts Pat Allen from Sheridan, WY and Joan Shirley from Helena, MT as well as numerous cousins.

David requested no services and wished for his ashes to be spread at his property in Deer Park, WA. Our special thanks to all of David’s caregivers at Sacred Heart Hospital for everything they provided David.
