Edward A. ”Ed” Prebil, age 83, passed away early Thursday morning, August 9, 2018.
Ed was born in Helena, Montana to Joseph and Anna (Markovick) Prebil on November 3, 1934. He attended school in East Helena and Helena. Following his graduation from Helena High School in 1952, he went to work at Nick Helfert’s Farm Supply. In 1961, Ed opened up his own business, Ed’s Husky Service in East Helena, which he and his wife Mickey owned and operated 46 years until their retirement in 2007 as Ed’s Sinclair.
At their business, Ed had a regular coffee club with many friends stopping by daily. Upon retirement he held a constant garage sale at his home where he continued to see many friends. Ed loved attending auctions collecting unique items for his garage sale.
Ed and Margaret “Mickey” were married on February 4, 1956 at SS Cyril and Methodius Church in East Helena. Ed and Mickey have one daughter JoAnne Ford, son-in-law David and grandson Zachary all of Kalispell.
Ed was active in the East Helena community serving on the Helena School Board for 8 years. He and Mickey were awarded Citizens of the Year in 1995. Ed also served on the East Helena Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Ed enjoyed bowling in his younger years. He loved his annual fishing trips to Canada with good friends. He could not wait until elk hunting season every fall. Ed was a huge sports fan. His favorite baseball team was the New York Yankees. The Green Bay Packers and Carroll College Saints were his favorite football teams.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph and Donald Prebil, Geraldine Prebil as well as members of Mickey’s family- Patty (Tom) Kokoruda, DeeDee (Bud) Gruber, Dan Reardon, Emily Reardon, Bill Kokoruda, Gerry (Les) Sodja, Beverlee- Pudgie (Ed) Finstad and Tim Reardon.
Ed is survived by sister-in-laws Ardis Kokoruda, Colleen (Ed) Marks and Irene Reardon. Brother John (Margery) Prebil and sister-in-law Lois Prebil. Ed is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews along with special friends Chris, Jolene and Austin Giardi and Dan Fusco.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs at Big Sky Healthcare and St. Peter’s Hospital that took care of Ed.
Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a funeral service to be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Montana Ave. A reception will follow the service in the social hall of the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at St. Ann’s Cemetery in East Helena.
