From there he was sent to Japan, then on to Korea. Bill fought on the front lines for 11 months. He received an honorable discharge in 1951 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After his time spent serving his country, he moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho with his Aunt Elsie and Uncle George Eystad. He worked with his uncle on construction sites as a laborer. Bill spent the next 50 years as a skilled union carpenter. He spent 20 of those years at A & B construction in Helena, MT as a superintendant. Bill worked on the construction of Helena High School, The Federal Building, Urban Renewal, Helena Regional Airport, and numerous other buildings.
