Former Helena resident Clark Fowler passed away April 8, 2019 at his home in St. George, Utah.
Clark was born April 17, 1923, to Walt and Ida Fowler in Conrad, MT. Following high school, he served in the Navy, then graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Chemistry and Montana State College with a Master’s in Education.
He met Lorraine Heyd while teaching in Ismay, MT and they married on April 17, 1948. He taught math and science in Ismay and Brady, then became Superintendent of Schools in Broadus, MT. He moved his family to Helena in 1959, when he became the State Math & Science Supervisor at the Dept. of Public Instruction.
During their 30 yrs. in Helena, Clark built a home on Canyon Ferry Lake to share his love of the water with his family, who spent joy filled days sailing, fishing and swimming there. He and Lorraine purchased and operated the Townsend A&W Drive-in when they left their jobs in Helena. They spent 5 yrs. sailing on Lake Havasu, AZ, then retired to St. George, Utah in 1990.
Clark is survived by his wife of 70 yrs., Lorraine; three daughters: Linda (Craig) Harlen; Sheila (James) Nave; Debra (Gary) Larson; son Jon Fowler; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
