Micky Zurcher will serve as the new executive director for the Helena Business Improvement District, according to a statement released Thursday.
The Helena Business Improvement District facilitates and advocates for a collaboration among business and property owners to improve downtown.
Zurcher, who works in Jefferson County as its community and economic development extension agent, will take over after Renee Bauer left in August following six months on the job. Tracy Reich, who came before Bauer, stayed for a year and a half.
The statement said Zurcher has the skills to help HBID continue to “play a leading role in realizing Downtown’s full potential.”
“We feel very fortunate to have found in Micky an executive director with impressive economic development and management skills, as well as great energy and enthusiasm. We are doubly fortunate to have found her right in this area, already having an understanding of local conditions and a love of Montana living,” HBID Chair Mark Roylance said in a statement.
Zurcher has a bachelor’s degree in park and recreation management from Northern Arizona University and a master’s degree in community development from North Dakota State University. She has experience in providing programming and assistance in community and economic development. She also helped develop Boulder’s master plan. Zurcher received an invitation to present her work in Boulder at the World Community Development Conference in Ireland this summer.
