The approximate location the house fire Monday night.

A house northeast of Helena was destroyed in a fire Monday night.

The home was located about 3 miles east of Canyon Ferry Dam in Lewis and Clark County.

Firefighters responded to the 4100 block of Water Dance Drive shortly before 11 p.m. Monday. Tri-Lakes Fire Chief Bob Drake says the house “burned to the ground,” but firefighters were able to save a garage, outbuildings and trees, and the homeowners will be able to rebuild on the site.

Both residents made it out of the home safely, and one was treated for smoke inhalation. No firefighters were injured.

Firefighters were still hauling water to the scene as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Drake said.

A chimney fire likely started the blaze, he said.

Along with Tri-Lakes, crews from East Gate, East Valley, Lewis and Clark, West Valley and York responded to the scene.
