Edward Fredrick Weiss, Jr., passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2019, with his family by his side. Ed resided in Battle Ground, Washington, and had battled Parkinson’s disease for several years.
Ed was born April 8, 1936, in Helena, Montana, to Edward and Regina Weiss. He was the oldest of eight children and attended school in Helena, graduating from Helena Senior High School in 1954.
Ed spent his youth hunting and fishing. He and his siblings enjoyed many happy days at “the cabin” at Beaver Creek outside of Helena, hunting, fishing, and hiking the hills.
He attended Montana State University and graduated with a bachelor of science in fish and wildlife in 1958. While at MSU, he shot competitive rifle with his younger brother Ron. Ed continued his excellence in marksmanship in the United States Army (1960-62), winning many medals including the Distinguished Rifleman’s Badge.
After completing his master’s degree in fish and wildlife management, Ed moved to Portland, Oregon, in the 60’s. He met and married Phyllis Barger and they had a son, Russ. Ed and Phyllis later divorced.
Ed spent many days in the outdoors fishing steelhead and salmon and hunting in the Pacific Northwest. Whether fishing on the Columbia River or the Pacific Ocean, Ed shared his passion for fish and fishing with Russ.
Ed worked 31 years for Pacific Power as a fisheries scientist. He retired in 1996. After retirement, Ed moved to Battle Ground with his partner Linda. In Battle Ground, Ed helped coach the air rifle team at Battle Ground High School. He also enjoyed flying remote control airplanes and was an active member of the local flying club.
Ed is survived by his son Russ (Cynthia) of Clovis, California, partner Linda Locke, sister Kathleen Mohr (Martin), brothers Tom and Mark (Jeanne), and sister Margaret Robbe (Clyde). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Bolduc (Rick), brother Ron (Gretchen), sister Shirley Weiss, and nephew Justin Robbe.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial ceremony was held in Battle Ground.
