A 56-year-old Jefferson City man is accused of assaulting a woman in a car and not letting her leave the vehicle.
David Lane is being charged with felony partner or family member assault and unlawful restraint, a misdemeanor.
On Feb. 19, officers responded to a report that a male passenger had hit a female driver multiple times as the driver was attempting to exit a vehicle.
Officers found the vehicle later in the evening. The victim had visible injuries, according to court documents. She told officers that an argument had started in the vehicle and that she had told Lane to leave the car, but he refused.
Lane allegedly said he was having a panic attack as the argument escalated, and then punched the victim in the face and head. Lane also threatened the victim with a screwdriver, according to court documents.
Lane told officers he had acted in self-defense, according to court documents.
