The Lewis and Clark County attorney's office announced Wednesday that a formal inquiry has been set for Nov. 2 regarding the death of a man who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being pulled over.
Josh Aaron Vestre died on April 7, 2018, in the presence of Lewis and Clark County deputies. A coroner's inquest is held in every instance of a death occurring while a person is being taken into custody or is in the custody of a police officer.
Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Coroner Jessie Billquist-Jette will be in charge of the proceedings, as Lewis and Clark County Coroner Bryan Backeberg recused himself due to familial matters.
Vestre's death was investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation, and those findings will be placed in front of a six-person jury to decide if the deputies acted correctly.
