Authorities say a 41-year-old Helena woman kicked a man in the groin with a clog and then struck him in the head with a bag a groceries as he doubled over in pain.
Anne Catherine Shaw is jailed on a felony charge of assault with a weapon. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of partner or family member assault.
Court documents state family members were able to secure firearms and a machete before Shaw could access the weapons. The victim was able to flee the scene after restraining Shaw in a sleeping bag.
The incident occurred on the 4500 block of Crooked Pine Drive on Wednesday afternoon. A witness called dispatch reporting the assault and telling authorities Shaw was attempting to obtain a firearm. According to court documents, the witness and victim attempted to leave the scene when Shaw jumped into the back of a pickup in which they were trying to leave.
Sheriff's deputies met with the victim and witness on the road leading away from the residence. The victim told the deputies about the attack and getting three guns and a machete out of Shaw's reach.
He said Shaw had tried to jump out of the bed of the pickup while he was driving so he stopped the truck in order for her to get out without injuring herself.
The victim said this incident followed a series of other assaults, none of which were reported to law enforcement.
