Two Box Elder women are jailed on felony charges of robbery on allegations they stole $2,750 in jeans and tried to run over a store employee.
Police responded to a report Saturday of a woman stealing 18 pairs of jeans from a store on the 3000 block of North Montana Avenue. While the women tried to flee the scene, they reportedly nearly struck a shop employee with a car.
A witness to the incident followed the women, who were later apprehended by police near Lincoln Road and Interstate 15, according to documents filed in Lewis and Clark County Justice Court on Monday.
The women, Leann Gardipee, 40, and Kelly Jo Ahenakew, 37, also face misdemeanor charges of theft.
Gardipee admitted to stealing "as many pairs of jeans as she could," the documents note. Gardipee said she then jumped in an awaiting car driven by Ahenakew.
Ahenakew told police Gardipee, her aunt, told her to "go, go, go," court document say.
The employee said she was standing near the front of the car when she heard the engine rev, the documents note. She said if she would not have moved, she would have been struck by the vehicle.
"Ahenakew admitted she knew the employee was there and she thought she was going to hit her with her car," the documents state.
