A Montana City man is accused of assaulting a 3-year-old boy, causing broken blood vessels and bruising to the child's eyes.
Michael James Fletcher, 32, faces a felony charge of assault on a minor. The charge was filed Friday for an attack that allegedly occurred in December.
Fletcher is jailed on $100,000 bond.
On Dec. 31, police responded to the hospital for a report of possible child abuse. The boy had two black eyes, a swollen forehead and bruising to his body, according to court documents.
Authorities deemed some of the bruises consistent with being grabbed by his chest and shoulders.
Fletcher was babysitting the child at the time he was injured. Doctors ruled the injuries were "non-accidental trauma indicating thesewere purposely caused," court documents state.
During an interview, Fletcher said the child hurt himself on Christmas lights while in timeout.
