Around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, the Broadwater County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a shooting that had just occurred on Lightning Barn Lane south of Townsend.

Capt. Seth Wenzel said the homeowner heard shots at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday and did not think much of it. After hearing shots after midnight, the homeowner then called police.

"Upon further investigation, deputies observed that the caller's house, propane tank, and vehicle had been shot numerous times by a high powered rifle and a shotgun," the department said.

Wenzel said it is too early to know if the shooting was random or the home was targeted for a reason.

No other houses were damaged in the area and the homeowner "doesn't know anyone that would want to do this," he said.

The suspect was driving a dark colored pickup and drove away southbound.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 266-3441.
