A 47-year-old Helena woman is facing a battery of charges after an incident with a partner.

Deborah Kaufman is charged with strangling a partner or family member, unlawful restraint, partner or family member assault and obstructing a police officer.

Police were called to a report of an assault Friday on Warren Street in Helena. 

Kaufman allegedly took a plastic golf club, grabbed it by the ends and pushed it against the victim’s neck, cutting off air, court documents state. 

The victim told police he had tried to leave the residence the day before, but Kaufman had stopped him from leaving, ripping his shirt in the process, according to court documents.

Kaufman allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to run away from the police.

She was booked into the Lewis and Clark County Jail.
