A Helena woman is accused of assaulting a person with a fixed-blade knife after accusing the victim of stealing her phone.

Laura Hale, 60, is charged with felony assault with a weapon and a misdemeanor count of obstructing a peace officer.

Hale accused the victim of stealing her phone while the person was having a conversation with someone else, according to court documents.

Hale removed a knife from the victim’s hip and motioned toward the two people with the knife, according to court documents. Then the two people grabbed Hale by the arms and took the knife away from her, and the victim was cut with the knife on the hand, according to court documents.

Hale told officers that she did remove the knife but was going to throw it down the hallway, according to court documents. Hale said she did not want to harm the victim and was intimidated by the knife.

Officers placed Hale under arrest when she refused to cooperate with them, according to court documents.
