Update: The assault with a weapon charge against Clayton Grewell has been dismissed.
A Helena man was arrested on suspicion of pointing a handgun at a group of people outside a bar.
Clayton Grewell, 30, is being charged with assault with a weapon, a felony.
Deputies learned about the altercation while investigating a report of life-threatening messages sent over Facebook Messenger Saturday morning. The person who received the messages said Grewell had pulled the handgun from his truck and pointed it at her and several others following an argument at 1:30 a.m. that day in the 4900 block of North Montana Avenue.
In an interview at the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Grewell said he had gone to the bar to have a drink and was leaving when five men walked out behind him. Grewell said he pulled an “airsoft gun” from his car to scare them away, but later admitted that the weapon was a real 9 millimeter handgun and that he had lied in the interview.
